On this the twentieth anniversary of my Dad's passing, it’s natural to reminisce today about some of my favourite memories from his life, and there are lots!
I take great pride in remembering the day my Dad asked me to take his portrait. As a talented photographer himself, it was an honour that he considered me up to the task. The process was great - it was very much a collaborative effort. Dad provided the lighting equipment, chose the location and selected his wardrobe. We shot for a few hours in James Gardens in Toronto, and we captured a range of moods and styles on film. This one was Dad’s favourite. He had the image enlarged, printed on canvas and framed. And he gave one to each of his “girls” – my mum, my sister and I – for Christmas that year. (This is a scan of the image from canvas - he didn't have big wrinkles in his forehead! LOL)
The year was 1984. What I just realized as I looked at this image today, is that Dad in this photo is the same age that I will turn on my birthday, tomorrow.
