I'm going to have fun with this idea this year. I will create five postcards from my own art, then I will send them off to Kat Sloma of Kat Eye Studio in Oregon. Kat will perform her mailing magic, and then I will receive six postcards back from artists from all over the world. I find this prospect utterly appealing.
Here are Kat's own words on the subject:
The world needs more art. The world needs your art. The Liberate Your Art postcard swap encourages you to create, share and liberate your art into the world, where it can do its greatest good. Join participants from around the world as we liberate our art through the mail and brighten the day of those near and far.
There is still time for you to participate and share this joyful experience. Sign up for the Swap, and get your postcards to Kat before March 14, 2015. She and some helpful volunteers will organize and address them, and then Kat starts mailing them back out. She will send you very thorough guidelines by email when you sign up, and she also has a great resource page on her website to help you along. And there is a Facebook Event group too.
Kat's been doing this project since 2011. Last year, there were over 200 participants from 10 countries. Read about past swaps here.
Why don't you liberate your art? Maybe I will get your postcard, or you will get mine. Regardless, you will definitely share in a unique opportunity for creative expression and connection-making.
Just heard from Kat today that she's received my postcards. Yay! Now, I just sit back and wait for other beautiful creations to arrive in my mailbox.
Well, I've received four of the six postcards coming my way as a result of Kat Sloma's great "Liberate Your Art" Postcard Swap. A fascinating cross-section of art has arrived in my mailbox, coming from Pat in Oregon, Charlotte in Maryland, Jewels in Michigan and Kate in Illinois. The participants have been busy on Facebook, Instagram and email, sharing photos of the surroundings where the postcards arrive. Here is the selection that I've received so far - I've tried to make all my new art feel at home!
A little disappointed that no one has, as yet, posted that they have received one of my cards. But there is still time!
